Practitioner performing precise dermaplaning treatment on client's facial skin at KM Advanced Skin Palmerston North

Dermaplaning

Medical-grade manual exfoliation that removes dead skin cells and vellus hair in a single treatment, leaving skin visibly smoother, brighter, and perfectly primed.

Topical, Add-On

Dermaplaning uses a sterile surgical scalpel held at a precise 45-degree angle to remove the superficial layer of dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the face. The technique physically exfoliates the skin surface more effectively than any chemical or enzymatic exfoliant alone, revealing the fresh, smooth skin underneath. Contrary to common concern, vellus hair does not regrow thicker or darker, hair type is determined by the follicle, which dermaplaning does not affect. The treatment significantly improves the application and wear of makeup and optimises the penetration of topical actives post-treatment.

  • Eliminates vellus hair (peach fuzz) for a flawless finish

  • Maximises penetration of serums and active skincare

Who it's for

Dermaplaning is one of the most universally suitable treatments in aesthetics — appropriate for virtually all skin types, including sensitive skin and those who are pregnant. It is ideal for those wanting immediate smoothing and radiance with no downtime, and is an excellent preparation treatment before events, photoshoots, or facials. Not recommended for those with active acne or raised lesions.

Practioner notes

Dermaplaning is one of those treatments where clients are always surprised by how much of a difference a single session makes. It's also one of the few treatments I confidently recommend to pregnant clients as a completely safe option. Combined with a gentle peel or mask, it's an exceptional preparation treatment before any special event.
